Community Conflict Mediation
Accessible, community mediation for interpersonal and organizational conflict
What is Mediation?
Mediation is a voluntary and confidential process that helps people navigate conflict with the support of a neutral third party.
A mediator does not decide who is right or wrong or impose a solution. Instead, we help people have difficult conversations, understand what matters to each person, and explore possible ways forward.
We see conflict as a normal part of living, working, and organizing together. When approached with care, conflict can clarify needs, strengthen relationships, create better boundaries, and open possibilities for change.
What we can help with
We offer mediation and conflict support for:
- Non-profits and collectives
- Workplaces and volunteer teams
- Housing co-ops
- Neighbours and roommates
- Tenants and landlords
- Community and grassroots organizations
- Other interpersonal and community conflicts
Not sure if your situation fits? Get in touch. We can talk with you about what is happening and whether mediation may be helpful.
How does it work?
1. Submit an intake form
Tell us a little about the conflict, who is involved, and what you are hoping for. We will follow up within one week.
2. Meet individually with a mediator
Before mediation, we generally meet with each participant separately. This is a chance to share your perspective, identify what matters to you, discuss any concerns, and learn more about the process.
3. Come together
During mediation, everyone has an opportunity to speak and be heard. Your mediator will help identify underlying needs and interests, work through areas of disagreement, and support a constructive conversation.
4. Explore ways forward
Together, participants explore possible solutions and next steps. This might result in a written or verbal agreement, clearer boundaries, a plan for future communication, or simply a better understanding of the conflict.
Our approach
Our work is grounded in accessibility, dignity, pluralism, and community accountability.
We recognize that conflict does not happen in a vacuum. Culture, identity, history, relationships, and differences in power can shape both conflict and its resolution.
We aim to provide mediation that is approachable, relational, and responsive to the people involved. We are also committed to learning from approaches to conflict transformation beyond dominant Western models and to building a diverse, community-rooted network of mediators.
Is mediation right for my situation?
Mediation is voluntary and works best when everyone involved can participate meaningfully and has some willingness to engage with the process.
We assess scope, safety and power dynamics before proceeding. Mediation may not be appropriate where there is ongoing violence, a significant safety concern, or a matter that requires legal or other specialized intervention.
Fees
Our services are offered on a sliding scale to make mediation accessible to people with different financial circumstances.
Community rate — $30-80/hour
For individuals and organizations experiencing financial barriers.
Standard rate — $80-150/hour
For individuals and organizations able to pay the regular cost of the service.
Sustaining rate — $150-225/hour
For organizations and individuals with greater resources. Helps us provide lower-cost mediation to others.
Most mediations include a 30-minute individual meeting with each participant followed by a two-hour mediation session. Fees include the pre-mediation meetings and joint session.
If cost is a barrier, we still encourage you to reach out.
